Shocking burglary into Lloyds Bank in London. How thieves cheated the police and disappeared with millions

The police alerted a resident of London that evening, who was passionate about radio stations. He accidentally heard a strange conversation in the ether. It sounded like a test of communication between thieves. They talked about the bank, but without specifics. He called the police. This initially downplayed the notification, but later, when the man presented the recording to officers, she went to action. They were pulled out of technicians and uniformed beds to check banks. It was Friday, banks were opened on Monday. So only three days after the police action was revealed what really happened.

The thieves kicked the tunnel on weekends
It was almost a perfect thieving job. Baovers (it is not known how many exactly there were, but certainly a few) have just seen Lloyds Bank much earlier. Perhaps because there was a leather store next to it, which could be rented. They did so, after which they began to dig a tunnel, which they later got to the bank through the floor. They worked on weekends so as not to arouse interest in noise. They kicked the tunnel for several weeks. Apparently, they later left almost eight tons of soil in the store, and they had to use explosives to make a hole in the bank's floor. Nobody heard anything anyway. After entering the treasury, the thieves were to spend up to 30 hours (among others, they waited for the police away from there).

There were compromising photos on the bank's floor
After entering, they opened 268 deposit caches. They robbed money and valuables for a total amount of 1.25 million to 3 million pounds. It is not known what the exact value of the loot was. Later, the police were to regain only a fraction of the stolen property. However, not only theft appalled the public, but also what the thieves did not take with them. When the police went inside, she was supposed to find a floor there with the contents of the caches. According to media reports, there were to be, among others illegal pistols, as well as a lot of photos, including Compromising photos of Princess Małgorzata and photographs of one of the conservative ministers, abusing children.
Until now, however, it is not known how many truths in this information, how many rumors. Some of them later inspired the creators of the film “The Bank Job” (translated into Polish as “English work”) from 2008. Many documents found after burglary were covered by the embargo until January 2071.

There is one more curiosity (maybe a rumor?), Associated with the famous burglary into Lloyds Bank. When the police watched the place of crime, they were to discover the inscription “Sherlock Holmes on the inside of the safe on the inside of the safe, he would try to solve it”, referring to the famous ul. Baker Street, at which the bank was located and where the literary hero of Conan Doyle lived.
Who was the brain of the action in London?
Over 50 years have passed since the legendary robbery at Lloyds Bank in London and various rumors and conspiracy theories are still circulating around it. Some sources say that the perpetrators were never found, others – that some members of the thief Szajka were arrested and imprisoned.
There are also different theories about who was the brain of the entire undertaking. This, presented, among others By Sky News, he suggests that he was a professional thief Anthony Gavin, who was supposed to train in British Army. He was to develop the whole plan, also choosing the right colleagues – including people who have not had disputes with the law so far. One of them set up an account at Lloyds Bank and regularly visited the cache, while examining the properties of the treasury room. The next one was to get the tools, and another – sign a lease agreement for the store neighboring with the bank.
Over 100 detectives were involved in the investigation, who were to arrest four perpetrators a month after the incident. The others – it is not known how many of them were – they melted in the air.
“The Independent” wrote, in turn, that the brain of the robbery could be a Brian Reader, a gang leader who, after hacking, apparently escaped to Spain. Later he took part in other thieving actions and was arrested in 2016 for a robbery on a bank deposit in Hatton Garden. Reader, called the most “busy” in the British underworld, died in September 2023 in the wild. Other participants of burglary on Baker Street have never been found.
