The euro currency is a common currency of the European Union countries, but there are also several countries that have adopted it as a national currency and which are not EU members. The euro was established as a currency to strengthen and facilitate economic cooperation within the European Union market. In the monetary circulation, the physical currency of the euro appeared in 2002, when it began to replace national currencies in 12 countries of the then Union, which decided to accept it.
However, in the first period, since 1999, the euro existed as a virtual currency for accounting and digital settlements. A European Central Bank was established for the purposes of conducting monetary policy in the euro area. Currently, 20 out of 27 EU countries have decided to change the national currency to Euro. Poland as a member of the Union also undertook to accept a common currency, but no decision has been made to this day when it is to happen.
Before introducing a new currency in the state, an information campaign should be carried out so that society can be properly prepared for upcoming changes. Adopting the euro is a process during which the double circulation period of both currencies will apply. At that time, people will be able to get acquainted with the new system and get used to its presence and use. About half a year before the introduction of the euro, the state introduces a permanent exchange rate, which will apply to the conversion of all prices of goods, services and benefits.
