Contacted by Hotnews, DNSC spokesman Mihai Rotariu, explained that eMAG is frequently used in such fraud.

“Online retailers are usually in the top of visual identities copied by attackers, and eMAG is commonly used because it is a national recognized brand. Often, such phishing fraud attempts are propagated through social media platforms, for the simple fact that it is less expensive.

Attacrators can compromise a user account or page that already has a rich audience and has built a certain level of confidence for followers, or even launching new accounts promoting competitions, false campaigns or shopping vouchers, ”said Mihai Rotariu.

He also recommended for people who hit such fraud attempts on the Internet to carefully check the name of the promoted site, especially when personal data are required, and report them to the authorities.

A similar type fraud circulated on Facebook and Monday, on behalf of the Cosmetics Notino brand. A “sponsored” post on Facebook of a page created on the same day urges the followers to enter a link and order the “mysterious box” with products worth hundreds of lei, with only 15.50 lei.
