DIICOT prosecutors and anti -drug police officers made a search at the house of a German citizen in Bucharest on June 11, accused of setting up a platform on the Darknet network, through which different types of drugs were sold, the Romanian Police announced on Tuesday.

The action was carried out within a European investigation order, at the request of the German judicial authorities, the General Prosecutor's Office of Frankfurt AM Main, “who conducts investigations on the criminal activity of a person, a German citizen, administrator of an online platform, through which, different types of drugs would have been marketed,”

According to the police, the platform, one of the largest illegal trading markets on Darknet, could be accessed exclusively on the Tor network, and, through it, people from different countries have sold several types of narcotics, including cocaine, heroin, LSD and fentanil, the payment being made exclusively in cryptomone.

From the evidence administered by the German authorities it turned out that the man set up the platform in 2020 and operated on as an administrator, holding control over all transactions carried out.

Following the sale of drugs, the man obtained revenues of over 30 million euros.

“Thus he benefited from taxes and commissions, transferred directly to his account, after selling the prohibited substances, obtaining unlawful income estimated at over 30 million euros,” according to the police.

The judicial activities were carried out together with police officers from the German policy – the Federal Office of the Criminal Police in Germany (Bundeskrimilamt), within a complex investigation, conducted on the territory of several states (Germany, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Portugal and the United States), the authorities say.

“During the actions, the Spain's house of the researched person, as well as a property in Hannover and the Minden-Lübbecke district were searched, numerous means of proof,” the statement said.

At the searches in Bucharest, several means of proof were discovered and raised, subsequently taught to the German authorities.

The action was attended by fighters from the Service for Special Interventions and Actions from the Romanian Police and police officers of the German Federal Police – BKA.
