Two spouses who tried to enter Romania from Ukraine, through the Siret Border Crossing point, were discovered on the body $ 1.4 million, the whole amount being withheld in order to continue the investigations, according to a Border Police statement sent on Sunday.
The money was discovered by a common control team, made up of border guards and customs inspectors from the Siret Border Crossing Point.
“Yesterday, June 14, 2025, around 7:50 pm, on the direction of entering the country, they showed up at the border control, moving on foot, two people-a 49-year-old man, a Ukrainian citizen, and his wife, a 39-year-old woman, with a double citizenship, a Romanian-Ukrainian team. discovered on this occasion important amounts of money hidden on the body of the two people ”, mentioned in the press.
Thus, the man was found on the man $ 810,000, while $ 590,000 were identified on the woman.
“None of the amounts had been declared according to the legal provisions in force regarding the introduction of cash in foreign currency or in national currency,” says the Romanian Border Police.
According to the legal procedures, the entire amount was withheld in order to continue the research, and the two persons were sanctioned by the Siret Customs Office with 15,000 lei each.
“We remind that the introduction of amounts of more than 10,000 euros (or the equivalent in another currency) without declaration is prohibited and attracts sanctions, including the confiscation of undeclared amounts. The Romanian Border Police reiterates the importance of complying with the customs regulations and encourages the citizens to inform them correctly before Romania”.
