French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou said that the government wants to take action on trying detection goals (detecting metal) at school entrances. Bayrou spoke after the death of the tutor attacked with a knife by a 14-year-old student in a junior high school in the east of the country.

When appearing in the parliament, the prime minister admitted that this murder is not an isolated incident.

“The government intends to go further in the direction of testing the detection goals at the entrances to schools,” Bayrou announced. He added that he would like to ban a certain type of knives that are not currently considered a weapon.

The tragedy took place on Tuesday at the Junior High School Francoise Dolto in Nogent in the northeast of the country. The 14-year-old attacked the tutor with a knife during the control of the contents of the backpack. A woman, a mother of a small child, working at school since September 2024, died from wounds.

Bayrou will speak in the evening on a television program about the tragedy. Education Minister Elisabeth Borne announced that the prime minister's head will say, among others about “better regulation of sales of white weapons”. Borne went to Nogent on Tuesday.

The head of the Ministry of Interior Bruno Retailleau said that the authorities' response to the tragedy could not only apply to security. He assured that there would be more “deterrence and sanctions” in schools.

Not only politicians but also parents took the floor after the tragedy. The organization of parents of public school students (Peep) stated that “the real problem is the mental health of young people.” She also demanded “better supervision, especially when it comes to school nurses and doctors.”

Less than two months ago, at the end of April, in Nantes, a high school student attacked the students with a knife, injuring one of the girls deadly. After this attack, the Ministry of Education announced that from March this year. 958 students' backpacks were carried out. 94 pieces of white weapons were taken over.

On the other hand, the Ministry of the Interior reported on Tuesday that between March 26 and May 26 this year. 6002 inspections were carried out in schools and 186 knives were taken over.

The vice -chairman of the National Assembly, the lower Chamber of Parliament, Naim Moutchou, has recently prepared a report for Prime Minister Bayrou about having white weapons by minors. Moutchou said at the end of May that this is a phenomenon that does not differ depending on the region or the social group.
