The Dutch temporary government is in favor of increasing expenditure on defending the country to 5 percent. Gross domestic product, according to the purpose set by NATO – the Dutch defense minister Ruben Bretelmans said on Friday.

“The government supports the new NATO standard to spend 3.5 percent on defense and 1.5 percent on defense -related funds,” Brekelmans wrote on Platform X.

“Given the growing threats, it is necessary to ensure the security of the Netherlands,” he added.

At the NATO summit in Hague, which will take place on June 24-25, the Secretary General of the Alliance Mark Rutte is to present to the Member States a proposal to allocate 5 percent. GDP for defense, including 3.5 percent for basic defense expenses and 1.5 percent for infrastructure and industrial investments related to security. This project was created on June 5 at a meeting of the Ministers of Defense of NATO countries in Brussels. (PAP)
