“Tania energy from the atom is dreams.” The expert dispels doubts

In the Onet program in the morning financially Bartłomiej Orzeł, a former government plenipotentiary for clean air and a representative of Think Tank Project Tempo, leaves no illusions: “it was already cheap”. Expert He argues that Poles must prepare for a lasting increase in energy prices, and the hopes for cheap electricity from the atom are – in his opinion – a myth.
– It was already cheap. This is one of the myths, which often repeat all sides of the debate that the energy from nuclear energy will be cheap. It will not be cheap. I think it will be at a level similar to energy from wind farms – says Bartłomiej Orzeł. He points out that the greatest support for the atom in Europe is recorded in Poland, which in his opinion is mainly due to the fact that this country does not yet have its own nuclear power plant.
Quoted fragment of the program:
Eagle emphasizes that the cost of investment in the atom is huge and does not decrease even with the flexible use of the power plant. – The more flexible we want to use nuclear power plants, the higher the cost of the energy will be, because the cost of the initial investment does not decrease. Capex remains the same, even if we use it less intensively – he states.
Energy prices will increase
According to Eagle, the direction of changes is clear. – Everything seems to indicate that energy prices will not fall, we will only be dealing with raising energy prices. I hope not with Blackout, because I would be most afraid of it. For today they do not threaten us, but in 2034 we will run out according to estimates about 10.5 GW of power in the system. We must strive to make this gap as low as possible. For today we can support ourselves with energy import – says the expert.
Energy transformation and system challenges
Polish energy is located at a key moment of transformation. The share of renewable energy sources (renewable energy) in the domestic energy mix is growing – in January 2025, renewable energy was already responsible for over 26 percent. electricity production, of which the vast majority were wind farms. However, as the Eagle emphasizes, “We must invest in distribution and transmission networks, but also make the system more elastic and include a large amount of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power plants. These sources are non -sterible by nature. Adding energy warehouses to them allows you to control the energy generated in some way, but it's still a challenge“.
The expert points out that the only control The source of renewable energy is biogas, which is not yet popular in Poland, although its role will grow.
Energy warehouses and support for households
In response to the question about support for households, the eagle explains.
– Households can already use subsidies for energy warehouses under the My Purchase 6.0 program. The condition, however, is the transition from the net-metering system, which was the most attractive, in favor of the physical magazine. For new installations, an energy warehouse is a very useful and financially favorable option. Warehouse prices will still fall, so this solution will develop He said.
It also emphasizes the importance of energy storage for industry. – In the case of energy -consuming enterprises, energy storage allows you to flatten the power consumption curve and at the same time reduce costs for the economy – he said.
Perspectives for atom and renewable energy
The government program for the construction of nuclear power plants assumes the launch of the first block in 2036, and the next ones are to start in 2037–2038. An atom investment is strategic for the country's energy security, but will not solve the problem of high energy prices. The costs of building and operating nuclear power plants are huge, and the energy from the atom will not be cheaper than from other modern sources.
At the same time, Poland is dynamically developing renewable energy. The power installed in solar and wind energy is growing every year, and the share of green energy in the energy mix gradually displaces coal. However, as the Eagle emphasizes, it is key to investing in infrastructure and energy warehouses that will allow you to effectively manage unstable renewable energy production.
