Empire in the shadow of war
The moment of concluding the preliminary agreements (just before the Russian invasion in 2022) contrasts with the later fate of Akhmetov's business empire. The war brought massive destruction to its energy and metallurgical assets in Ukraine. Despite this, the businessman's fortune is estimated by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index at over $7 billion.
Monaco has been the most expensive real estate market in the world for years, and prices in the new Larvotto district exceed the symbolic PLN 100,000. euro per square meter. As Savills experts note, this market is characterized by “structural shortage and unwavering international demand”.
Collector of luxury addresses
A purchase in “Le Renzo” is not the only spectacular address in the wallet of the richest Ukrainian. Akhmetov has been investing capital in the most prestigious locations in the world for years.
In 2019, he bought the historic Villa Les Cèdres on the French Riviera, which once belonged to King Leopold II of Belgium, for EUR 200 million. In turn, in 2011, he purchased a penthouse in the famous One Hyde Park complex in London.
The new investment in Monaco confirms that despite the geopolitical turmoil and losses in the industrial sector in Ukraine, the SCM holding continues its strategy of capital diversification in the segment of the most elite real estate in the world.
