FC Politehnica Iaşi has announced that, starting on Wednesday, the insolvency procedure was initiated, “necessary for the continuation of the activity in conditions of legality and financial stability.”
The decision, validated by the Iasi Court, in the file 3748/99/2025, was taken following the significant decrease of the club's income, caused mainly by the diminution of television rights and sponsorship contracts, with an estimated financial impact to over 1.5 million euros.
“As a result of the relegation to the second league, the club lost over 1.5 million euros only from TV rights and sponsorship contracts, which would have remained in force only if the team continued in Superliga. In these conditions, after a thorough analysis, from the desire to continue the activity of the club, we found that the only legal variant we have to do,” Briaur.
“Our firm promise is that we will respect our commitments, including the one regarding the team's objective, which remains the promotion in Superliga, at the end of this season. The insolvency entrance does not forbid the right to promote in the first league. Moreover, we have successful models in Superliga, of clubs that have well crossed this period, in the year 2014, in the year 2014, Millions of euros, and in 2021, with total debts of 8.7 million euros), CFR Cluj (in 2021, with debts of 26 million euros at the entrance to insolvency) or Hermannstadt Sibiu (in 2021, with debts of 5.7 million euros) and returned stronger from all points of view, “said Florin Briaur, quoted by News.ro.
“FC Politehnica Iaşi thanks the supporters, partners and local authorities for support and promises transparency and responsibility in managing this difficult, but necessary stage, to solve the problem of the historical debts of the club. At the end of the insolvency period, Poli will be a clean club that will be able to propose much more bold objectives,” the club said.
