The services led to the arrest of three 19 -year -olds planning terrorist attacks in Poland – said spokesman for the Ministry of Interior and Administration Jacek Dobrzyński. He added that young men “were fascinated by the ideology that sows terrorism.” The court will decide about their further fate.
As spokesman Dobrzyński said, young men “were fascinated by the greatest criminals of this world who committed the greatest killings.” They analyzed the attacks that occurred in Norway, New Zealand, in the United States. “And this is the most terrifying because they perfected their skills,” emphasized Dobrzyński.
During the briefing, Jacek Dobrzyński said that 19-year-olds “analyzed this at an angle of mistakes made by the perpetrators.” “They downloaded information from the Internet on how to build explosives, how to practice field shooting, but also in closed facilities” – He emphasized.
Men were detained thanks to the work of officers of the Internal Security Agency. Two were detained in April. Dobrzyński added that “this third person was also detained.”
As Dobrzyński said, the prosecutor's office had no doubt about the evidence that the officers of the Internal Security Agency gathered. He noted that ABW officers did a powerful job. “I give them respect and honor, because they have already caught the first symptoms that are the most important,” he added.
The spokesman did not inform the men planned the assassinations. According to unofficial information that RMF FM reached, a school could find a school, but also larger clusters of people, such as LGBT parades or pilgrimages of the faithful. According to unofficial information obtained by PAP, the detention of men planning the attacks wanted to gain publicity and it was one of the reasons why the case was not informed before.
Investigators have determined that all suspects collected information on the service of firearms and shooting attitudes on the Internet. To this end, they attended shooting ranges, as well as conducted military and tactical trainings.
In a joint announcement of the ABW and the District Prosecutor's Office in Olsztyn, it was stated that men collected funds with pyrotechnic properties and instructions for the construction of explosives.
“The suspects drew their inspiration, among others from the activities of mass killers such as Anders Breivik, Brenton Tarrant or Timothy McVeigh. They were fascinated by their ideology, analyzed the way they were carried out by attacks and mistakes, “said the prosecutor's office.
19-year-olds were presented, among others Allegations of committing crimes under art. 168 of the Penal Code in joke. 163 of the Penal Code, which relate to crimes against life and health, as well as bringing an event that threatens the life or health of many people or property in great size. The threat of punishment is from one to 10 years. The suspects also heard allegations of Art. 255a parish 2 of the Penal Code, which relate to participation in the training, which aims to commit a terrorist offense. These acts are punishable by imprisonment from 3 months to 5 years.
Two men were arrested, while in the face of the third, the District Court in Olsztyn applied a freedom preventive measures. “The case is developmental,” investigators said.
A spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Olsztyn, Daniel Brodowski, told PAP that the prosecutor's office requested arrest against all suspects. With the court's decision to apply for one suspect, the prosecutor did not agree and lodged a complaint to this decision – he explained.
The Minister of the Interior and Administration Tomasz Siemoniak said on Thursday at TOK FM that he knew this case. “I can say that the Internal Security Agency works very effectively, it is very focused on this type of threat and this is of course,” he emphasized. He noted that the tasks of ABW officers are fighting all kinds of extremisms, including preventing planning of terrorist activities. “This is the agency's good work, good operational work, good work on the Internet. These are people who simply protect us from those who are fatal, bad, criminal thoughts walk on the head,” said the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration.
He added, now the case will be dealt with by the prosecutor's office and the court.
Bodnar with a planned assassination attempt: Russian influence is and will deepen
Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar, commenting on a thwarted assassination attempt, said on Thursday that we must realize that the Russian influence is now and will be deepening all the time. He added that Russia not only sends its agents, but also acquires people from within the country.
Before the meeting of the EU Ministers of Justice in Luxembourg, Bodnar was asked by journalists for a comment on the arrest of three 19-year-olds who planned a school attempt.
As he said, it is difficult to determine the Russian connections at this stage. “I do not follow this matter in detail,” the minister admitted.
“On the other hand, let us remember that in the case of various subversive acts that were undertaken in Poland, these were not only acts prepared by people who were sent by Russian services, but also people obtained through social media (…) to carry out any actions” – he noted. “This type of action method could also take place in this case,” he noted.
According to Bodnar, Russian methods include “acquiring people from within a given country, be it citizens of a given country, or people from migrants or even refugees.” “Often for payment, and sometimes simply using the naivety of a person,” he added.
The minister pointed out that “in principle there is no week when a new matter would not appear – whether regarding these shipments controlled with incendiary materials, whether matters of arson, or preparing to take some sabotage, subversive or spy activities”.
“This is another matter in which we see what has changed in Poland in the last few years,” Bodnar emphasized. “We must realize that this Russian influence is now and will be deepening all the time,” he added.
“And a few years ago these matters regarding spy, subversive and sabotage activities were literally single” – he noted. Meanwhile – as Bodnar added – now these matters are counted in dozens.
