Hubert Thuma criticizes the PNL leadership and firmly supports Veștea: “Romania needs a government”

The National Liberal Party is facing internal tensions after the president of the Ilfov County Council, Hubert Thuma, published a critical message to the leadership of the party, in which he challenges the current political direction and the way the negotiations for the formation of a government are handled.

Thuma states that “does not agree at all” with the direction in which the party is being pushed, specifying that silence in this context would mean “a form of complicity in a mistake”.
He emphasizes that Romania urgently needs a stable government, given that the economic situation is difficult, and the lack of a clear political decision generates uncertainty for entrepreneurs, local administrations and the population.
“It's time to stop behaving as if we have the luxury of time. Romania needs a government now. The economic situation is a difficult one, and the uncertainty grows every day when there is no clear solution. Entrepreneurs who postpone investments feel it, mayors who can no longer make plans feel it, people who expect stability and predictability feel it in a period in which they have fewer and fewer reasons to find them”. Thuma relayed, adding that political decisions should be made in the national interest, not electoral.
In his message, the liberal leader from Ilfov also refers to the involvement of President Nicușor Dan in the current political context, appreciating that he tried to promote a political solution instead of a technocratic one.
The harshest passage of his message, however, concerns the discussions within the PNL regarding possible sanctions or exclusions from the party. Thuma rejects this approach, stating that the formation should not become “a party that punishes its people for taking political responsibility”.
“I don't think the PNL must become a party that punishes its people for taking political responsibilities. I don't think we throw people out for trying to find solutions at a difficult time for the country. We can have different opinions. We can have disagreements. But we can't turn every disagreement into a political execution.” he also wrote.
Hubert Thuma's message also highlights the need for a government “stable, pro-Western and able to make decisions”, warning that Romania “can't afford prolonged gridlock”.
