Below, the specialists reveal to us what this area is, how to clean it correctly and safely, but also other essential personal hygiene tips that many of us forget or have not learned.

The body area that almost everyone is wrong: the ears

“As a doctor, I can say that the ears are the part of the body which, almost always, is wrong. Many of us grew up with the idea that we must use sticks For cleaning the interior of the ears, but unfortunately, this method can do more harm than good ”explains Dr. Uma Darji, a specialized doctor in preventive medicine, wellness and disease management, for the publication Parade.

Experts warn that the use of ear sticks can push the wax deeper into the auditory channel, which can lead to blockages, discomfort, irritation, infections and even temporary loss of hearing or eardrum injuries.

How to clean your ears correctly

If the ears are not the right solution for cleaning, then what is the alternative?

“Honestly, the ears are designed to clean themselves”explains Dr. Uma Darji.

Dr. James Lyons agrees: “The wax in the ears naturally migrates to the outside over time, so all you have to do is gently wipe the outer area of ​​the ear with a warm and humid cloth.”

But what do we do with the wax that stays inside the ear? Although it may seem unpleasant and disturbing, in reality it is not a problem as serious as we believe.

“Wax is not something dirty”says Dr. Lyons. In fact, it is essential. “It has a protective role – it helps to capture dust and impurities”adds Dr. Darji.

However, if you feel discomfort or notice that your hearing is affected, both specialists recommend that you consult your family doctor. It can professionally clean your ears or direct you to an ENT doctor.

There are also home treatments, but these are not always the best option. “There are safe droplets and irrigation methods, available without a recipe, but it is important to exclude an infection or eardrum problems before trying on your own.”warns Dr. Darji.

And yes, excessive cleaning is a reality, warns Dr. Lyons: “It all wants to know when it is better to do nothing.”

Other important hygiene tips that many omit

Ears are not the only areas, parts of our body, which we do not pay enough attention in our daily care routine. Many people overlook certain seemingly minor, but essential aspects for our health, such as the correct cleaning of nails, belly or even tongue.

Neglecting these details, continuing certain hygiene mistakes, can lead to the accumulation of bacteria and, implicitly, various health problems.

Don't forget to clean under the nails

Bacteria love to hide under the nails, Dr. Darji warns. And this can become problematic, especially when we eat with our hand, because we transfer the microbes directly into the mouth.

The good news is that the solution is simple: “A soft nail brush, used when you wash your hands, is usually enough. Especially after you have been to the toilet, have manipulated food or changed a diaper.”

Dr. Lyons completes: Even an extra minute to wash hands can make a significant difference.

And the belly needs hygiene

It's small, it seems insignificant, but it still has to be cleaned. “The belly gathers sweating, dirt and bacteria”, explains Dr. Darji.

For his hygiene, all you need is a clean and humid cloth.

Don't forget to clean your tongue

Do you wash your teeth and use the dental floss, but do you clean your tongue?

“The language can shelter a large amount of bacteria. A delicate tongue cleaning device can make a huge difference.”warns Dr. Darji.

The correct drying of the legs is essential after the bath or shower

Hygiene is not limited to washing – drying is just as important.

“Many people rinse their feet in the shower, but do not dry well between the fingers. The remaining humidity can favor the appearance of fungal infections, such as the athlete's foot – especially if you wear socks and footwear all day.”attracts Dr. Lyons.

Clean bed linen matters more than you think

Although not directly part of our body, bed linen significantly influences personal hygiene, because these textiles touch our skin.

“The pillow faces, in particular, accumulate sebum, sweating and bacteria, which can cause skin irritation or acne rashes. They change them once or twice a week helps maintain freshness and skin health.”explains Dr. Lyons.

Regarding the washing of the bed linen, it would be ideal to change it at least once a week, or at the latest to two weeks.
