On Monday, the Warsaw-Praga District Court sentenced the main defendant in the SKOK Wołomin cases, Piotr Polaszczyk, to 14 years in prison in a trial involving “laundering” approximately PLN 350 million.

The verdict in the case regarding the charge of “laundering” money from SKOK Wołomin was handed down in a Prague court after more than five years of trial. The case involved over 220 charges; reading the operative part of the judgment took almost an hour.

The accused in the case is a former officer of the Military Information Services who sat on the authorities of SKOK, Piotr Polaszczyk (he consents to the publication of his name in his cases – PAP note). The prosecutor's office asked for him to be sentenced to 15 years in prison. The defense and the accused requested acquittal. – The indictment (…) is an example of political gangsterism – said Polaszczyk.

The court found Polaszczyk guilty on most of the charges, changing and modifying the description of most of them. He sentenced the accused to 14 years' imprisonment and a fine of over half a million PLN. The judgment is invalid.

The case concerned the allegation of “laundering” PLN 358 million. In the operative part of the judgment, the court mentioned the established amount of over PLN 347 million. According to the charges, the accused conducted activities aimed at concealing the criminal origin of money from fraudulent loans and credits at SKOK in Wołomin.

Meanwhile, the main trial regarding the SKOK Wołomin scandal began at the beginning of December this year, also before the district court in Prague. The total amount of fraud there is estimated by the prosecutor's office at over PLN 3 billion. There are over 60 people on the bench of the accused in the main trial, including Polaszczyk, and the indictment itself consists of 29 volumes, over 5.5 thousand. pages.
