American actress Sydney Sweeney revealed the dramatic transformation she went through to play the boxer Christy Martin in a future biographical film, confessing that her body became “completely different” after months of intense training, Variety reports.

“I accepted Christy's role and had about three and a half months of workout,” Sweeney said in an extensive W. magazine interview.

W Magazine mentioned that the actress has been weighting around 13.5 kilograms for this role.

“My body was completely different,” Sweeney said. “I was no longer in any of my clothes. I usually carry the size 23 in the jeans, and now I wore the size 27. My breasts increased. And my bottom increased enormously. It was crazy!” She continued.

“But it was extraordinary: I was so strong, incredibly strong,” said Sweeney.

She plays Christy Martin in a sports biographical film, for now without title, directed by David Michôd. The film will tell the story of Christy Martin's ascension, which became the most popular American boxer of the 1990s.

Sweeney will play a boxing legend in her next movie

Martin competed at a professional level from 1989 to 2012 and became a world champion in the super semi-middle category in 2009. In 2010, she survived an attempted murder by her husband, James Martin, who stabbed her several times and shot her in their Florida home. He was sentenced in 2012 for attempted murder and received a 25 -year prison sentence.

In October 2024, Sweeney published on Instagram some pictures in which he embodied Martin.

“In recent months, I have been completely dedicated to workouts to give life to the story of an incredible woman – a real champion who has led to fighting both in the ring and outside,” she wrote. “Her journey is a proof of resistance, strength and hope, and for me it is an honor to walk into her skin and share this powerful story with you. There is more details 🙂 Christy Martin,” she continued.

The distribution of the future biographical film about Christy Martin also includes Ben Foster in the role of James Martin, along with Merritt Wever, Katy O'Brien, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad L. Coleman and Tony Cavalero.

Film filming ended in November last year, but the producers have not yet announced the date they aim for launching in theaters.
