Meta will train her (AI) generative intelligence models on the public content of her users in Europe and on conversations with the Meta AI Chatbot, the company announced on Monday, Agerpres reported.

“People in the European Union who use our platforms will be able to choose that their data are not used for the purpose of training AI,” the company said on social networks.

Comments or mentions that accompany photos, all the public content from European users of Meta platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp) will now be used to train generative artificial intelligence models, as well as the content of conversations between users and Chatbot AI systems.

The European users of the various platforms of the META group will receive in the following days notifications that will be informed by this new company policy. Also, users will also receive the link to a refusal form of using this data, the statement said.

This change should not affect minor users and no private messages of adult users “with friends and family will be used,” Meta said.

The Meta launch in the EU has been postponed for more than a year due to European regulations governing new technologies, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and those on digital markets and AI. The Meta is now based on a December decision of the European Data Protection Committee, who believed that “legitimate interest” could be a valid legal basis for the use of personal data for the development and implementation of AI models in the EU.
