The leader of the ATP standings, led 2-0 to sets and had three match balls in the fourth set, but Alcaraz managed to return and prevail after 5 hours and 29 minutes of play, in the longest final in the history of the Paris competition from the beginning of the Open era. Previously, the longest final at Roland Garros was the one won by the Swedish Mats Willanrs in 1982, after 4 hours and 42 minutes, in front of the Argentine Guillermo Villas.
Carlos Alcaraz defended his title at Roland Garros, after one of the most fascinating matches in tennis history. The Spaniard was led by 2-0 to sets, won the third, but it seemed to be in the fourth, when Jannik Sinner had 5-3 and 40-0 on the opponent's service. However, the Italian missed all three match balls, after which Alcaraz took the set in Tie-Break, who won.
Sensational return, from 3-5 and 0-40
Boiled by the public in the stands, Carlitos broke off at 4-2 and 5-3 in decisive, but the world leader did not leave. He returned to 6-5, so that the Iberian would succeed in sending the game to Super Tie-Break. There, Alcaraz unleashed: he led 7-0, Sinner had a pride and recovered two points, but only that. It was 10-2 for the Spanish, which is crowned for the second time in a row at the Parisian tour, becoming only the third player in the history of tennis that wins a Grand Slam final after saving the match ball. Before he was Gaston Gaudio (against Guillermo Coria at Roland Garros 2004) and Novak Djokovici (against Roger Federer at Wimbledon 2019).
Alcaraz, at the 5th Grand Slam title
The epic match in Paris set a record, this time negative: by the fact that he lost from 0-2 to sets, Jannik Sinner became the first player in history to win the first 20 sets at a Grand Slam tournament, but failed to conquer the trophy.
At 22, Carlos Alcaraz now has 20 trophies, five of which by Grand Slam: two won at Wimbledon (2023, 2024), one at the US Open (2022) and two at Roland Garros (2024, 2025).
Jannik Sinner (23 years old) also won 19 titles, three of them: two at the Australian Open (2024, 2025) and another at the US Open (2024).
