Lukashenko spoke at the ceremony of the grand opening of the football stadium in Minsk, which was built at the expense of China. He told how once in a conversation with his “old and very reliable friend” Xi Jinping discussed the creation of the national stadium and the “international level” pool and how later the head of the PRC allegedly initiated such a gift from Belarus.
“Today we officially open the greatest monument. I said at the entrance where you saw, the Chinese brought two players – such a monument. I said that it would be just right to erect a monument to my friend Xi Jinping,” Lukashenko said.
