A cardiologist surgeon draws an alarm signal on seemingly harmless daily habits, which can seriously affect the health of the heart. Among them: the use of mouth water with alcohol, a trivial gesture, but with possible consequences on blood pressure.

As a cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Jeremy London, from Savannah, Georgia, operates almost every day sick hearts, repairs damaged blood vessels and performs bypass operations for clogged arteries.

Although these products promise impeccable oral hygiene, they also eliminate good bacteria from the oral cavity, essential microbes in the process of producing nitric oxide, a substance that helps to relax and dilate blood vessels. In the absence of it, the body may encounter difficulties in maintaining normal arterial tension.
“There is clear evidence that the destruction of oral microbiome by frequent use of mouth water reduces nitric oxide production and affects voltage control,” explained the cardiologist surgeon. “In fact, you can increase your blood pressure only by killing the beneficial bacteria in the mouth“He added.
A study quoted by the doctor shows that the regular use of mouth water is associated with an increased risk of hypertension.
