The technical solution for the execution, in an emergency regime, of the capture and transit works of the Corund stream, which flooded Salina Praid, was established within the framework of the operative meeting attended by the institutions involved in managing this emergency situation, according to an information published on the Harghita Prefecture website.

“As a result of the field visit of the team made up of the designer, builder, specialist of Romanian water and geologist, the following variant has been agreed: the capture and management of the Corund stream will be made through pipes with the diameter of DN2000, anchored in the slope. The work will be executed in a stable area, not affected by the suffering phenomena, MC/S.

Evacuation of houses remains in effect

At the same time, it is mentioned that all the established measures are in the graph, and the monitoring of the situation is permanently carried out by all the available means.

The evacuation measure of persons in the risk area is still maintained.

“We remind the citizens that, since the beginning of this emergency situation, protection measures have been ordered for the population in the proximity of the affected area, as well as for their goods.

Risk of surge

A day ago, 45 houses in the perimeter that can be affected in the event of a slab were evacuated. The authorities said they took into account the “most negative scenario.”

The Minister of Economy, Bogdan Ivan, who was in Praid, announced, on Sunday evening, that specialists who will monitor the situation with underwater drones will be on the scene, and the support of some international experts will be requested. Also, during the day the works of deviation of the course of the Corund stream would begin.

The waters brought by the rains of the last days have destroyed Salina Praid from Harghita County, one of the most famous saline in Romania. Due to the infiltration, the underground dam has given up, and the salt mine galleries can be collapsed at any time.

Last year, about 470,000 people paid the ticket of 60 lei to visit Salina, some coming to treat various conditions. Local tourism and related businesses have become vital to the area, according to a hotnews report made on the spot by journalist Dana Coțovanu.
