Medvedev said that negotiations in Istanbul were needed “not for a compromise world” on “fictional unreal conditions”. According to him, they are needed for the “speedy victory” of Russia.

The American Senator from the Republican Party Lindsay Graham in X to this replied that Medvedev made his statement about the “real purpose” of negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul to understand that Russia was not interested in the world.

“I am grateful to you for making it clear to the world that Putin and Russia are not at all interested in the world,” the American senator emphasized.




Context

The second round of negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation was held in Istanbul on June 2. According to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umarov, the delegations managed to coordinate the exchange of prisoners according to the formula for all for all for military personnel of two categories: seriously wounded/seriously ill and young. The minister also said that Ukraine invited the Russian side to hold another meeting from June 20 to 30.

On June 1, Ukrainian Pravda, citing a source in the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, aware of the negotiations, reported that the Russian Federation threatens the disruption of the negotiation process for the ceasefire in Ukraine against the backdrop of a special operation “Pautin”, which was conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine.

On June 2, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs of the Russian Country Country Alexei Chepa called two conditions under which the Russian Federation will agree to hold the third round of negotiations with Ukraine until the end of June. The first condition – the forces of the defense of Ukraine must stop their attacks on the Russian rear, including the railway and airfields, the second – Kyiv must agree to a somewhat day -day truce proposed by Moscow in certain sections of the front, which will allegedly bring the bodies of the dead.
