Actress Valerie Mahaffey, known for the roles in “desperate wives” and “young Sheldon”, has died at the age of 71, confirmed the actress's family, BBC reports.

Mahaffey's publicist said the star died in California on Friday after being diagnosed with cancer.

In a statement provided to Variety magazine, Mahaffey's husband, Joseph Kell, said he “lost the love of my life, and America lost one of the best actresses.”

“He will feel lacking,” said the actress's husband.

In 1992, Mahaffey won a Primetime Emmy award for best actress in a drama series for interpreting the Eve role in American black comedy Northern Exposure.

Her success in prime time came after an Emmy prize in Daytime in the previous decade for her role in The Doctors, a soap opera between 1979-1981.

He also appeared in several films, including Sully and Seabiscute.

More recent roles have included an appearance like Madame Reynard in the 2020 French Exit movie, for which she was nominated for an independent Award Spirit.

Born from a Canadian mother and an American father in Sumatra, Indonesia, Mahaffy has moved to Texas.

Her first film role came in 1977, when she played in the movie Tell Me My Name.

Throughout his five decades career, Mahaffy has appeared in episodes of dozens of television series, including medical drama, the dystopic series in the High Castle and the Musical Glee series.

In Desperate Housewives (desperate wives), his memorable role like Alma Hodge, the former manipulative wife of Orson Hodge, made her appear in the drama on Wisteria Lane for eight episodes.

She also played the role of Professor Victoria Macelroy in Young Sheldon (young Sheldon), a spin-off of the Big Bang Theory who focuses on the education of Star Sheldon Cooper.
