The head of the Timiș Police, Chestor Alin Petecel, detailed how the entire action was carried out that led to one of the two men involved in this case. A policeman from national and European roads from the Timiș Road Service observed, on Saturday, on Nicolae Titulescu street in Timisoara, a vehicle who, at the sight of the police crew, would have made a sudden, unjustified turn.

“The police started in pursuing the vehicle, managing to block it on a nearby street. At one point, two men who tried to run from the spot. Following the prompt intervention of the police, the driver, a 36 -year -old man, was caught. French, belonged to another car.

Subsequently, the investigations confirmed that the money came from a theft committed at the headquarters of the Romanian Post in Timisoara, the damage being estimated at 10 million lei. The investigation was taken over by the Criminal Investigation Service, under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Timiș Tribunal.

The 36 -year -old man was detained for 24 hours. Meanwhile, the police officers of the Criminal Investigation Service continue their investigations to identify and catch the second author.

The road police officers who caught the suspect stated that he was cooperative and did not resist.

“He didn't tell us to tell us where the money came from, but the raffia bags in which the money had labels had, but I didn't know where they were. I found out the next day to whom they belong. I understood that they had to pay the pensions. (…) Nothing about the other suspect. The man was not armed.

The investigators raised the vehicle and other objects, but did not provide additional details on how it was penetrated into the Post office, stressing that the research is ongoing.

“We acted. We were not notified by the mail (…) an investigation is in progress,” said the head of the Timiș Police.

The details of the Romanian Post

The National Post Company transmitted in a press release that the incident did not endanger the distribution of pensions and social benefits, as well as that the damage was fully recovered.

“We assure all the beneficiaries that they will receive all the pensions and social benefits in time, both nationally and in Timisoara,” the institution said.

The Romanian Post also says that an internal verification has started to determine if there were irregularities in complying with the security protocols, both from the employees responsible for the money guard and the protective company that provides the intervention service.

“Starting on Monday, June 2, the Romanian Post will start a process of reinstating the employees, checking the anti -theft systems and updating the protocols with the intervention company,” the statement said.
