Cristian Tudor Popescu commented on the decision of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) to secrete the statements of wealth and interests, on Friday, in an intervention for B1 TV, and ironically stated that the institution “made a therapeutic gesture, a salutary medical gesture” for “those who actually steal and have to make an effort to complete their declaration”.
Asked who disturbed the statements of wealth, the newspaper said: “Well, who to disturb? Besides those who actually steal and have to make an effort to complete their declaration of wealth, that you need to know how to lie there, yes, so that they are caught and that means stress, this people can be made by the state, Therapeutic, a gesture gesture.
He did not exclude the possibility of overturning the decision by the future composition of the Constitutional Court, where three judges are going to conclude their mandate in about a month.
“” We can expect this, since the full current of the Constitutional Court has overturned (…) The decision of the same Constitutional Court, which said the opposite, that regarding the right to private space, to intimacy and the officials and civil servants, this must be restricted in their case, that is to be public, If this can be with the decisions of the same constitutional court with other people, it can probably be turned back again, ”said CTP.
Cristian Tudor Popescu explained that the declarations of wealth were also useful to see what income and goods those who run the “losses state companies” have.
“Besides, I said, by the stolen and they have to embroider there, to arrange their declarations of wealth, not always successful, there are those whose statements are perfect in accordance with reality. They show how much money those people, how many houses, how many lands have (…), as many as the states, Wealth, we have the impression that they work at least at Microsoft, and they work at these here with losses, well, these statements are not liars, they do not hide the theft, or, if you want, it is theft in hand, because those guys raise some colossal amounts from there, as salaries, bonuses, we can see, Tudor Popescu.
The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) decided on Thursday that statements of wealth and interests should not include the goods and revenues of the spouses. Also, the constitutional judges declared unconstitutional the article of law which provides for the obligation to publish the statements on the website of the National Integrity Agency.
The “surprising” decision of the RCC was criticized by President Nicușor Dan, who described it as “in contradiction with an essential principle of democracy-transparency in the exercise of public functions.”
HotNews.ro spoke on Friday with the president of the National Integrity Agency, Florin Moise, and with the head of the Legal Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, the PSD deputy Liviu-Bogdan Ciuca, to explain the steps following the unprecedented decision.
