Grindeanu: I told the president that in the end we can gather a majority in the Parliament, but it does not fit the criteria required by him

The leader of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, said that he told the president Nicusor Dan that in the end his party can gather a majority in the Parliament, but this majority does not fit the criteria required by the head of state.
Sorin Grindeanu was asked Monday evening, on Romania TV, if the president Nicusor Dan asked the PSD to form a parliamentary majority.
“We told him that in the end we can collect a majority in the Parliament, that we can have a government, proof that we collected 281 votes to replace Ilie Bolojan, the necessary being 233, only that this majority does not fit into the criteria required by his lordship”, said the PSD leader, according to Agerpres.
He added that the options for forming a government are very narrow.
“It turned out that we can collect a number that exceeds 233, but at the same time I told you, and I don't want to leave room for interpretations, I told you that we don't make majorities of this type. I also saw what AUR said, that they don't vote for a government that they are not a part of. Then the options become very narrow,” Sorin Grindeanu said.
On Monday, at the Cotroceni Palace, President Nicusor Dan held consultations with the political parties and formations in the Parliament on the topic of appointing a candidate for the position of prime minister to form the new Executive, after the dismissal by motion of censure of the Bolojan Government.
At the end, Nicuşor Dan announced that he will continue the series of consultations with the parties until a solid, pro-Western majority version is crystallized, appealing to their responsibility in order to reach a common denominator, based on “coherent” formulas and “viable” proposals.
The head of state discussed throughout the day with representatives of PSD, AUR, PNL, USR, UDMR, national minorities, SOS Romania and POT.
The PSD rejected a new Government led by Ilie Bolojan, and the AUR announced that it would assume the government, but also talked about early elections. The PNL no longer wants a government with the PSD, and the USR has announced that it will enter the opposition, if the PSD finds a parliamentary majority to form the new Government. UDMR believes that a restoration of the former governing coalition should be attempted.
