Former US President Joe Biden told the press on Friday that he feels “good” and “optimistic” about the future, in his first public statement from announcing the diagnosis of prostate cancer, reports France Presse.
“Well, the prognosis is good. You know, we are working on all aspects. There are progress. So I feel good,” said Joe Biden, 82 years old, after an event that marked “Memorial Day”, the holiday that honors each year, in the last months of May, the American soldiers.
“We are all optimistic about the diagnosis. In fact, one of the best surgeons in the world works with me,” he added.
Biden's office announced on May 18 that the former democratic president was diagnosed with an “aggressive” prostate cancer form with “bone metastases”. This cancer has the level 9 on the Gleason scale, which evaluates the levels of aggression of prostate cancer on a scale of up to 10.
Democrat explained on Friday that he decided to follow a diet as part of his treatment. “Our forecast is that we will defeat this cancer,” he added.
“It is not in any organ, my bones are solid, it has not penetrated. So I feel good,” he repeated.
The announcement on his cancer reappeared the speculation, powered by his successor Donald Trump and the Republican camp, on a possible hiding state of health of the Democrat by his entourage during his mandate.
Joe Biden retired late from the 2024 presidential race, against the backdrop of his health after a disastrous debate with Donald Trump.
Asked on Friday about this controversy, the former president answered ironically: “I am mentally incompetent and I cannot go.”
He assured that he did not regret that he had applied in the first phase for the presidential elections for a second term and considered that his democratic opponents should have pushed more problems, but they gave up because he “would have defeated them.”
On Friday, Biden also participated in a commemorative job for the 10th anniversary of his older son's death, drink, died in 2015 of brain cancer, at the age of 46. “To be honest, it's a difficult day,” he said.
