The “triumvirate” that seized power in Iran threatens reprisals: “They exceeded our red limits”
Iran's leadership has been temporarily taken over by a council of three high-ranking officials. The new “triumvirate” says it is prepared for any scenario and warns that the US and Israel will “suffer the consequences” as regional tensions rise.

Iran has entered a period of political transition unprecedented in decades following the confirmation of the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The leadership of the state will be provided temporarily by a council made up of three senior officials, until a permanent successor is appointed.
This “triumvirate” will be composed of President Masoud Pezeshkian, the head of the judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejeï, and a jurist from the Council of Guardians of the Constitution, according to the announcement made by Mohammad Mokhber. According to Iranian law, this council can intervene and “temporarily assume all leadership duties” until a new supreme leader is elected, notes apnews.
The successor must be appointed by the Assembly of Experts, an 88-member clerical body which, according to the law, “must choose as soon as possible” the new leader of the Islamic Republic.
Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Iran has undergone only one such transfer of power, in 1989 after the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, at which time Ali Khamenei was elected supreme leader.

Authorities in Tehran claim to have anticipated such a situation and prepared plans for all eventualities.
“We prepared for these moments and considered all scenarios,” said Saturday, February 28, the speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, in a message broadcast on state television.
He also issued a direct warning to Washington and Tel Aviv, saying that US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had “crossed our red lines” and “will suffer the consequences”.
Donald Trump threatens with “unprecedented force”
For his part, US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday evening, on his Truth Social network, the death of the Iranian leader, describing him as “one of the worst people in history”. A few hours after this message, the Iranian state media officially confirmed the death of Ali Khamenei.
In a new message published on Sunday, March 1, the White House leader warned that Iran could react “stronger than ever” and threatened that the United States would respond “with unprecedented force” if attacked.
Khamenei's daughter, grandson, daughter-in-law and son-in-law were also killed in the attacks, according to reports.
In parallel with the leadership change, Iran launched retaliatory attacks on neighboring Gulf states in response to strikes attributed to the US and Israel. The operations targeted several targets in the region, heightening fears of a rapidly expanding conflict.
