The Independent Russian portal Mediazon announced that it was possible to confirm the death of at least 109,635 Russian soldiers who died from the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. These data were collected jointly with the Russian BBC editors, based on public sources, such as obituaries, cemetery registers, social media, local media relations and information about initiatives commemorating the dead, e.g. planting trees.
