After a power failure in the southeast of France, electricity was restored in 160,000 houses – RTE – network operator said on Saturday. The prosecutor's office supposes that the cause of the failure was intentional actions, including damage to the poles of the electrical network.
The City of Grasse prosecutor's office stated that three out of five supports on the high voltage supply line with Cannes energy were deliberately damaged. Earlier it was reported that at night there was a fire near one substation and it is suspected that the fire was planted intentionally.
Disconnecting the high -voltage network by the operator to enable repair caused a power outage in Cannes in the morning. Two investigations were initiated on the failure.
In the afternoon on Saturday, the authorities of the Seaside Alps Department announced the gradual restoration of power supply and resumption of transport in all places. Earlier, regional trains were disturbed as a result of a failure.
The failure occurred when the famous International Film Festival is coming to an end.
Organizers: The power failure will not affect the end of the Cannes festival
The organizers of the Cannes Film Festival assured on Saturday that the power failure that occurred on Saturday in the south of France would not affect the festival's ending ceremony planned for the evening. Earlier there were short disturbances during the projection.
On Saturday morning, the projection of one of the films was interrupted and resumed after 20 minutes. Then the festival organizers informed that the independent power system was used, which would allow to carry out “all events and projections (…) in normal conditions, including the completion of the” festival. It is scheduled for 18.
