Eduard Hellvig, a message at 150 years since the establishment of PNL: “We risk the holiday to remain a stop in the traffic jam”/ the proposals of the former SRI chief

Eduard Hellvig, the former director of the SRI, said, in an X post, that PNL is in a position to look for a new compass, risking the celebration of 150 years to be “a stop in the ambition of history.” The Liberal proposes to the party to create “a new liberal paradigm”, focused on four main directions of internal reform.

“The National Liberal Party would have been worth, as a reference party of our history, to celebrate its centenary and a half under a serene sky. But it welcomes it at a crossroads where the old maps have become useless, the indicators do not help us and there is no magic waze. Today it belongs to the fiber of the Liberals” to find it.

He mentioned the post made a year ago, when PNL celebrated 149 years of existence, which he said, “unfortunately”, remains current.

“In order to remain relevant, today's PNL, and especially tomorrow, it has to change the speed, and increase the pace. It is not enough to go inertially in the past of some successes or partners that represent other values. It is not sufficient to inspire from seemingly similar parties, but which really represents the progress, nor the interest, nor the interest,”

“Museum of missed opportunities”

Hellvig now claims that PNL has to reinvent the way it makes politics and instill more courage to young people in the party's second line:

“What does a new liberal paradigm mean?

  • Authentic unit, not a display case, with transparent decisions, competence in the face of loyalty and directions that inspire confidence, not fear.
  • Deep internal reform, ie clear rules, bottom meritocracy and opening to new people and even specialists from outside the party.
  • The agenda for the present and the future, with an opening to the digital economy, modern infrastructure, promoting European and national values at the same time, but also with real support for entrepreneurship and social mobility.
  • The defense of liberal democracy in the context of new technological and ideological pressures, through a constant partnership with civil society, respect for institutions and firm reaction to informative intoxication or to the illiberal temptations. ”

Hellvig compares the current political situation with a crowded intersection from which the speeds will not come out, but those who anticipate the maneuvers of the other drivers. For this, a leadership is needed to rebuild confidence in liberalism as the main way to prosperity and freedom.

“Our party would have deserved a better anniversary. Possibly with a victory. It was not. Probably each of us, today's Liberals, we should have done more and better to cross the political traffic jam. Invigorated.

Hellvig returned to PNL in November 2024

Eduard Hellvig left PNL, when President Klaus Iohannis was appointed director of the Romanian Intelligence Service. Hellvig to re -enroll in PNL in November last year, two days after the first round of the presidential elections, which were then canceled by the Constitutional Court.

“I will try an explanation for the results on the 24, even if I risk becoming unpopular. The success of the poor film directed by Mr. Georgescu is the direct consequence of a good superficiality of politicians without idea, who have spent their election campaign, sucking their bellies, admiring their picture and believing their own.” when they were actually just ribbons.

I risk a burden of old man. Gather at the center, promote convincing people and quality ideas that will make Gargara non-frequent. So simple. The party has reset, it is time to deliver for the future. It is not time for revenge, it is the time of concrete actions ”, wrote Hellvig on X.

On December 11, 2024, Hellvig returned with a new message saying that he did not intend to run for any position, in the context in which his name had been conveyed as a potential PNL candidate for the premier or even candidate for presidential elections.

“The negotiations, which start from the principles of government, will inevitably reach the names. Which names will embody the principles. As the principles have never been seductive, it becomes important that the people who will illustrate them are impeccable. But not a man, but at least two. In the elections that come, it will be more important than the tandem president, who will never be proposed. Eduard Hellvig.

Who is Eduard Hellvig

In addition, Hellvig was PNL Secretary General (2011-2014), being one of the main negotiators of the USL and one of the liberal leaders who contributed to the bringing of Klaus Iohannis among the PNL.
