France claims the origins of Pope Leon XIV, after finding a kinship with a famous footballer

A portal dealing with genealogy claims that Pope Leon XIV and footballer Eric Cantona (58) have common origins. The connection between the two would give about 12 generations, around 1500.

Among the distant and illustrious relatives of the pontiff would be the philosopher Albert Camus. The information related to the past of the new Pope was provided by the website Genealogy Discord Server.
While the maternal descent of the pope can be easily established, his paternal line presents many gray areas and contradictions. For some time, a chase has begun everywhere to find out the origins of the Holy Father.
Italy claims that he has ancestors in Piedmont, the French, on the other hand, argue that his ancestors left Normandy, passing through Paris and then moving to Louisiana, and from there to Chicago, the city of Pope Leon XIV.
The genealogical tree would include it among the distant summer – between 12 and 15 generations – the former great footballer Eric Cantona, related to the Prevost name by the couple Bertrand Negrel -Louis Jean, married in 1566, in Roquevaire.
