George Simion announced on Tuesday that he will challenge the result of the second round of the presidential elections, respectively the election of Nicușor Dan as president. Simion also asked for the hearing of the founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, before this election was validated. Telegram chief came up with a reply on the X network.

“I am ready to come and testify if this helps the Romanian democracy,” Pavel Durov wrote on X.

He thus responded to a post of George Simion in which he announces that he has “officially asked the Constitutional Court to cancel the presidential elections in Romania (May 2025).”

“For the same reasons why the December elections were canceled: external interferences by state and non-state actors,” says Simion in posting. “This time proven with evidence! Neither FR, MD nor no one else has the right to intervene in the elections of another state.”

Why does George Simion challenge the result of presidential election

In a live broadcast on his Facebook page on Tuesday night, Gold leader George Simion announced that his formation will challenge at the Constitutional Court (CCR) the result of the presidential elections on Sunday, the poll lost by Simion in front of Nicușor Dan.

“We will challenge at the CCR the choice of Nicușor Dan for exactly the same reasons why they canceled the elections in December,” said Simion.

He accused the “electoral tourism” of the Republic of Moldova, denounced an alleged interference of France in the elections in our country, as well as an “whole mechanism of fraud”.

Simion also asked for the hearing of Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram Messaging application.

Durov argued that the head of the France's Foreign Intelligence Service (DGSE) asked him to censor him the “conservative voices in Romania” before the presidential elections-which he refused to do, invoking freedom of expression. DGSE “firmly rejected” these accusations.

“The social networks were manipulated and the algorithms were used in the direction of influencing Romanian citizens. The testimony of the creator Telegram saying that the French government intervened to censure our voices during this period is the hearing of the Creator Telegram before these elections are declared valid,” said George Simion on Tuesday.
