On the day that Nicușor Dan became the new elected president of Romania, the Supreme Council of Magistracy announced the start of the procedures for the position of president of the High Court of Cassation and Justice.

The law states that the procedure cannot be started earlier than 60 days until the moment the function is to be vacated, respectively September 16, but it is not known what was the resort that caused Corna Corbu to do so from now on.

The section for judges of the SCM has decided that, until June 16, 2025, including, the candidates for the head of the High Court of Cassation and Justice (JCCJ) can be filed.

According to the SCM, the estimated calendar of the procedure begins with May 19 when the announcement is posted on the Council's website, June 16, 2025 is the last day for the candidates, on June 17, the names of those want to lead the JCCJ and their candidacy projects are published.

Starting with June 23, the Section for Judges can begin to analyze the candidates and approve the interview.

According to several judicial sources, the only name conveyed for the position of president of the Supreme Court is that of Judge Lia Savonea, former member of the CSM judges section and former president of the Bucharest Court of Appeal.

Currently, the CSM judge section is controlled with 8 votes at 1 by Liei Savonea judges, after in 2022, the former SCM, organized twice elections for the Council Section after several appeals that were admitted, but only in the case of judges.
