Manipulation on Tiktok. Hotnews image, fraudulently used for false news about “arrest” of politicians
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) draws attention on Sunday, May 18, that False information that uses Hotnews and Antena 3 CNN is distributed on the Tiktok network, “in order to manipulate public opinion in the electoral context.”
The images fraudulently mimic the visual identity of the Hotnews site and offer a false article that says that, after the result of the vote, the leaders of the traditional parties “are afraid of arrests or flee from the country”.
The user of the tiktok account who published the fake images copied the hotnews.ro header and also uses the name of the publication journalist.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs warns about the distribution on the Tiktok platform of false information regarding the alleged fraud of the electoral process,” announces in a press release.

It also draws attention to the fact that “the material in question is likely to mislead the public opinion, simulating a legitimate journalistic content and carrying fully manufactured information, to amplify the distrust of the citizens regarding the correct and legal conduct of the electoral process.”
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs has started the legal procedures for analyzing and notifying the competent institutions, in order to verify the possible violations of the legislation in force, including in terms of computer offenses, the computer false and the spread of false information,” says MIA, in the statement.
