On Thursday, Russian leader Vladimir Putin dismissed General Oleg Salukov from the function of commander of the Land Forces and appointed 49-year-old Mordwiczów in his place.
As Radio Swoboda pointed out, this is the second promotion of Mordwiczów since the beginning of the Russian invasion against Ukraine. In 2023, the military became the commander of the Central Military District.
His quick career in the war was contributed by the Russian troops under his command of Mariupol in the south -east of Ukraine. In Ukraine, he has a status suspected of war crimes. According to the prosecutor's office, the Russian troops killed civilians and attacked civil and critical infrastructure.
Gen. Mordwiczow for Gierasimowa?
Thanks to the tactics of the “meat assault” of the Russian army in February 2024, among others take up Awdijewka in the Donetsk region. Mordwiczow was praised personally by Putin.

According to the American Institute of War Studies (ISW), Putin could decide on charging in the command, preparing the army for a summer offensive against Ukraine, which is to start at the end of May or in June.
