From September 1, a complete ban on use in Poland. Gis alarms

From September 1, 2025, the ban on the use of TPO (Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphine Oxide) enters into force in cosmetics – we read in the GIS message published at the end of April.
TPO, i.e. difenyl oxide (2,4,6-trimetylobenzoilo) phosphins, is a photosensator who plays a key role in the process of curing cosmetics under UV and LED lamps.
This substance was approved in a limited concentration (max. 5 %), only in professional nail styling products. Its application was regulated by the provisions contained in Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 regarding cosmetic products.
“In the light of the classification of the substance in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 CLP2, TPO as a substance that works harmful to category 1b (repr. 1b) should not be used in cosmetics – said” – we read.
What does the ban for the cosmetics industry mean?
According to the new regulations, from September 1, cosmetics containing TPO will not be able to be launched or available for sale. The cosmetics industry must therefore adapt its products to meet new requirements. This means the need to introduce technological changes and search for alternative solutions.
The ban on using TPO is another step towards tightening regulations regarding the safety of cosmetic products. For producers, this means a challenge, but at the same time a chance to develop innovative formulas that will meet the market requirements and EU regulations. For consumers – more confidence in the safety of used products.
GIS reminds of indications for producers, nail stylists or distributors:
Indications for producers and importers:
– Stop using TPO substances in products.
– Adjust your products before September 1, 2025 – you will avoid costs associated with the subsequent withdrawal of products from the market.
