According to a statement sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, lately the armed confrontations have multiplied between major rival groups, and the risk of extending these violence in the capital to other regions of the country is very high and may occur without any warning.
“The recent modification of the security climate in the capital Tripoli can cause certain armed formations to resort to abductions or other criminal activities to target foreign citizens present throughout Libya”, warns MAE.
Also, the Romanian authorities point out that flights at the Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli can be canceled without notice, with the possibility of redirecting the races to the International Airport in Misurata.
Increased risks are also reported in the south of Libya, as well as in the border areas with Algeria, Niger, Ciad and Sudan, due to the activities of organized crime groups and the weak intervention capabilities of the local authorities. The risk of kidnapping is considered high.
Recommendations for Romanian citizens in Libya
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs asks the Romanians who are still in Libya to urgently contact the Romanian Embassy in Tripoli, temporarily relocated to Tunis, and announce their presence in the region, providing the contact details. The embassy can be contacted on the emergency phone: +216 566 146 77 or email: [email protected] / [email protected]
“Romanian citizens who ignore the MAE warnings and move to risk areas, are warned to do it on their own responsibility and will bear the consequences of such trips, considering that the intervention possibilities of diplomatic missions and consular offices in such areas are reduced”, emphasizes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
