A 49-year-old man was detained by the police in Cluj after fooling a 70-year-old pensioner, convincing him to make fictitious investments and causing him to transfer over 1.4 million lei.

According to the Cluj County Police Inspectorate, the police officers of the Criminal Investigation Service, under the coordination of the prosecutor from the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Cluj-Napoca Court, carried out two searches in Sibiu, in a criminal case in a continuous form, which includes less than 639.
The investigation has shown that the 49 -year -old man has misled and maintained a 70 -year -old, for about 11 years, under the pretext of profitable financial investments. In fact, it was a fictional scheme, and the pensioner was manipulated to make repeated payments for alleged “taxes” related to these investments.
“From the administered evidence it turned out that the researched person would have used false identities and false qualitiespretending to be a contractor of a banking institution, thus causing the injured person to carry out, repeatedly, payments in order to obtain alleged winnings”, Reports IPJ Cluj.
Also, the suspect would have invented taxes related to “transport of funds“And they would have also appealed to false phone calls, in which a so-called”bank robot”, To seem credible in front of the victim.
In total, the 70 -year -old man would have transferred over 1,400,000 lei, the equivalent of about 300,000 euros, to 639 installments. All this money would have been unfairly learned by the suspect.
Following the searches at the domicile of the suspect in Sibiu, the police officers raised several goods with probative value. The man was taken to the IPJ Cluj headquarters for hearings. After hearings, it was detained for 24 hours and will be presented to prosecutors with a proposal to take preventive measures.
Police are continuing their investigations for complete documentation of criminal activity and identifying other possible victims. The action was carried out with the support of the Sibiu Municipal Police – Criminal Investigation Bureau, Special Action Service and Criminal Service within IPJ Sibiu.
