US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will take part in the informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Turkey on May 14-16 – Reuters said on Saturday. According to the Turkish agency Anatolia, the presence of representatives of all 32 Member States of the Alliance is expected.

Reuters announced that during the next week's meeting “the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war” would be discussed. As the Ansa agency noted, the Russian leader Vladimir Putin proposed direct conversations between Russia and Ukraine, which would take place in Turkey on May 15, i.e. in parallel to the informal meeting of NATO ministers.
Anatolia emphasized that the May informal meeting will also be an opportunity to consult before the summit of NATO leaders, which will take place in The Hague on June 24-25. According to the agency, the most important issues raised will include activities aimed at changing the division of loads within the Alliance “and to shape the future of European security”.
As the Department of State said, Rubio intends to “promote the program of President Donald Trump to ensure that our allies will make a fair contribution” to strengthen NATO and increase its effectiveness. (PAP)
