The instability in Syria could lead to the reactivation of jihadist groups and represents a security risk for Europe, according to an internal document of the European Union on combating terrorism, consulted by Reuters.

“Violent terrorism and extremism continue to represent a significant threat to the European Union and its Member States,” the text shows.

As for Syria, the authors of the document note that “the evolutions in the security situation could lead to the reappearance of the jihadist groups in the region, or at risk of departing some combatants from the Syrian territory – possible to Europe – or by remotely activated the jihadists already on the European continent.”

At the beginning of last year, the group of the Islamic State (SI) urged its followers to commit attacks in various cities in Europe and the US following the Western support offered to Israel in the Gaza Strip, to “avenge” Muslims in Palestinian territories and other countries in the Middle East, Agerpres notes.

“Make them know that they will count, on the streets of Washington, Paris, London, Rome and in the unbelievers, for crimes committed in Palestine, Iraq, Levant and the rest of the Muslim countries,” said the spokesman of and, Abu Hazifa al-Ansari, in an audio message broadcast on the channels.

The message was transmitted on the same day when the Islamic State group claimed the attack with 84 dead and committed near the grave of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani. This terrorist group controlled the large territories in Iraq and Syria in 2014, but in the meantime it has been territorially defeated in these countries and has lost much of its operative capabilities.
