In Warsaw or Berlin? Where the big mac is more expensive

Why have economists so willingly looking at the prices of McDonald's sandwiches? The answer is quite simple – Big Mac dishes around the world are either identical or almost identical. By checking their prices, it is therefore quite easy to determine what the purchasing power is in a given country.
However, the prices of sets may differ in individual locations. So we checked the capitals of Poland and Germany – and we chose restaurants located in the centers of these cities.
A large Big Mag Menu set in Berlin – in a restaurant at the ZOO station – costs 9 euros 79 cents. That is, in terms of PLN 41 51 GR (course of May 9). For this price we will get a sandwich, large fries and a large drink, and a surprise – a “collector's” glass.
We confronted this price with a restaurant in Warsaw, located at ul. Świętokrzyska. There a similar set costs evenly PLN 35although we did not get a glass (a similar promotion appears in Poland, but we did not find it).
So the difference is not a small one – in the Polish capital the set is PLN 6 51 groszy.

And what does purchasing power look like?
Therefore, Polish prices can approach German, but the most universal rate in the world – the price of Big Mac – remains higher in our neighbors.
But what does purchasing power look like? According to the Central Statistical Office, the average gross salary in the Polish capital is 10,000. PLN 171 Meanwhile, it is 4,000 in Berlin. 173 euros. In Poland, it can be assumed that it is 7,000. PLN 264 net, however, taxes are much more complicated in Germany. Much depends, for example, on the family situation or even on belonging to the Church. Let's consider the young single without children. After deducting all contributions and taxes, about 2,000 stays on his hand in Berlin. 695 euros. Therefore, he can buy 275 large Big Mac Menu sets per month.

What about a statistical Varsovian? He will buy 207 similar sets for his salary.
The difference is therefore exactly 68 sets. This is not enough, but it is also clear that there is no great gap between the standard of living in both capitals. Although of course no comparison will be perfect. It can be argued that after all, sandwiches from Fast Food will never say everything about prices in a given place.

Another thing is that the salaries in Berlin are not among the highest in Germany – indeed, they even underestimate the average in this country, which is about 4,000. 186 euros per month. Meanwhile, in Poland, salaries in Warsaw are definitely the highest in the country. Meanwhile, a resident of Frankfurt am Main earns an average of 4,000 857 euros a month – so his Bigmac purchasing power is probably much higher than the statistical Berlin or Varsovian.
