The incident took place on Sunday, while Trump left the White House to go to the US Open. Yamiche Alcindor, NBC journalist, directly asked: “Try to enter the war with Chicago?”.

Trump's reply came immediately: “When you say that, honey, there are fake news ”. When Alcindor tried to insist, the president's tone became aggressive: “Listen. Shut up. Listen. You never listen. You never listen. That's why you are second.”.

Controversial posting with “Apocalypse Now”

The journalist's question came after Trump had published on Saturday, on Social Truth, a message accompanied by an image generated by artificial intelligence, inspired by the movie “Apocalypse Now”. In the illustration, he appeared supervising helicopters over the city of Chicago.

The text of the post said: Chicago is about to find out why the war department is called ”allusion to his plan to rename the defense department. On September 5, Trump had even signed an executive order in this regard, reports the New York Post.

Political reactions: “Threat to an American city”

The governor of the state Illinois, JB Pritzker, immediately criticized the message on the platform X: “PThe US resident threatens that he will enter the war with an American city ”.

Asked about this interpretation, Trump said he is “fake news”. However, both the text of the post and the image used made explicit reference to Chicago.

The White House is trying to explain

Former head of the border service, Tom Homan, tried to clarify the situation in an interview at CNN, claiming that Trump would have been “Remove from context”: “The administration enters the war with criminal cards, With illegal immigrants, with threats to public safety ”.

Critics, however, emphasize that the silhouette of Chicago appears in the post, which suggests a direct threat. The US press notes that Trump most likely wanted to make a spectacular reference to the movie “Apocalypse Now”, but it went too far. Subsequently, to avoid explanations, he blamed the governor Pritzker and journalists.
