Majdan Niepodległości is the main square of the Ukrainian capital, where the Ukrainian revolutions took place: orange (2004-2005) and dignity, known as Euromaidan (2013-2014).
The orange revolution is protests that broke out in autumn 2004 in connection with the falsification of the results of the presidential election by the power camp, represented by the pro -Russian candidate for president Viktor Yanukovych. His opponent was the candidate of the opposition camp, Wiktor Juszczenko.
The revolution of dignity has gone down in history as mass social speeches against Yanukovych, who became the president of Juszczenka. Demonstrations broke out in November 2013 in response to the refusal to sign the association agreement with the European Union. Within a few days of the bloodiest clashes with the Ukrainian militia and special units, over 100 protesters were killed. They were remembered as a heavenly sotnia.
The protests of the dignity revolution lasted until February 2014, when Yanukovych was overthrown and fled to Russia. This initiated a series of events, including The illegal annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea and war with the so -called separatists in Donbas.
“Coalition of the Volunteers” in Kiev
“Coalition of the Volunteers” was created on March 2 this year. On the initiative of the Prime Minister of Great Britain Starmer in order to develop a comprehensive support plan for Ukraine, ensure its constant access to weapons and take action to end the war. It includes 33 countries – mainly European, as well as Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Türkiye. The coalition did not include USA, some Balkan countries, Hungary and Slovakia.
The “Coalition of the Volunteers” enables NATO members to jointly operate outside the formal structure of the alliance, which avoids the potential veto of countries that do not want to engage in military projects for Ukraine.
