There will be a monument for Polish victims in Berlin. The Bundestag has made a decision


According to the resolution, the federal government is obliged to announce a competition for the project with the participation of Polish experts. The winning project will be presented to the Bundestag.

The Parliament decided that the most appropriate place to erect the monument would be the site of the former Kroll Opera House, where there is a temporary monument in the form of a Memorial Boulder, unveiled in June. The vote in the Bundestag was preceded by a debate lasting over half an hour.
Most AfD MPs abstained from voting
The CDU/CSU, SPD, Greens and Left MPs present in the plenary voted in favor of adopting the resolution. Two MPs from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) were against, while the rest of the party abstained from voting.
The German government's plenipotentiary for cooperation with Poland, Knut Abraham, told PAP that the competition is to be announced at the beginning of 2026 and an amount of PLN 750,000 may be allocated for it. up to EUR 1 million. The amount of expenditure on the monument will be decided in the federal budget for 2027 or 2028.
