A provincial city in Romania will enter the Book of Records: it will host the largest parade of the popular port

On Sunday, May 11, the city of Mioveni will become the capital of the traditional port, to host the largest parade of popular costumes, which are expected over 3,000 participants. Authorities have already started formalities to score the event in the Book of Records.

Over 3,000 participants in folk costumes, especially from Argeș, but also from other counties of Romania, will march on Sunday 11, starting at 4 pm, in the center of Mioveni. The largest popular costume parade in Romania will take about three hours. It must be said that in Mioveni, parades of the folk costume are organized annually, but this year's edition will be unprecedented as large.
All those who own and want to wear at least one popular costume – either out, vest, stick, chimney, marama or cojoc – and join this broad demonstration of national pride. It must be said that people from all over the country can come to the parade, not just from Argeș.
“Adevărul” spoke about this unique event, as well as the tradition of the popular port, with Aurel Costache, the mayor of Mioveni, and with Argentina Culcuș, the manager of the County Center for Culture and Arts Argeș.
“The parade of the popular port A is a tradition in recent years in the city of Mioveni. We hope to enter the Book of Records, it would be really extraordinary. At the same time, the parade next Sunday will be one in which the national identity and the traditional port will be promoted.says Aurel Costache, the mayor of Mioveni.
The event on Sunday, May 11, is organized by the Argeș County Council, the County Center for Culture and Arts Argeș, the Mioveni City Hall and the Mioveni Cultural Center, in partnership with the Argeș County School Inspectorate.
Old folk costumes over 150 years
Argentina Culcuș, the manager of the County Center for Culture and Arts Argeș, is the one who had the idea of this record parade of the traditional port.
“This parade will be a special event and at the same time a way to inspire and connect the generations. At the parade can come from all over the country. The number of 3,000 participants in the parade can surely be reached. After the event, we will send by e-mail to the Film and Photos Records, like more documents. the record ”says Argentina Culcuș.
Four living human treasures of Argeș County will be present at the event on May 11, offering everyone present a special foray into the world of popular traditions. These are Marilena Iosifaru, Viorica Olivotto, Constantin Vasile and Marin Vasile.
In Argeș, popular ports have a long history. For example, at the Golești Museum there are also traditional ports of almost two centuries old. And Maria Plopeanu from Coșești commune is one of the largest collection of folk costumes, having over 150, some of them over 150 years old.
