The Constitutional Court will analyze on Friday the request to cancel the first tour of the presidential elections last Sunday, according to the program on the CCR website.
According to the program, the Constitutional Court will discuss, in the scheduled meeting to start at 12:00, two topics on Sunday's poll:
- Request for the cancellation of the elections for the position of president of Romania in the first election round on May 4, 2025
- Confirmation/validation of the result of the elections for the position of president of Romania in the first poll round on May 4, 2025
The Constitutional Court did not say who submitted the notification, but it is about the request for cancellation filed by Sebastian Popescu, a candidate supported by the New Romania Party.
He confirmed on Tuesday for Hotnews.ro that he had filed a referral to the RCC, invoking “violation of democratic principles” and influence the voters during the campaign.
It also accuses a handling campaign on Tiktok, comparable to the one attributed to Călin Georgescu's support in the 2024 elections. Popescu obtained 25,994 votes, the equivalent of 0.28%.
Following the first round of the elections, the candidates who qualified in the second round are George Simion, who obtained 3,862,761 votes (40.96%), and Nicușor Dan, with 1,979,767 votes (20.99%), according to the results announced by the Central Electoral Bureau. The two will face the second program scheduled for Sunday, May 18th.
