Actor Marius Manole announced on Thursday that he will go to several high schools in the country to talk to students, including “teenagers who will vote on May 18” about the right to vote, which they consider fundamentally in a democracy. In a public message, on Facebook, the actor says that education should have been “A priority in Romania ”and has launched a call to teachers to involve young people in civic and cultural life. His approach was then joined by the actress Oana Pellea. “I will not tell them with whom to vote, but I will urge them to vote!”
Marius Manole will start on Thursday, May 8, a series of meetings with students in several cities, according to an announcement made on his Facebook page. The first stop will be at the “Dante Alighieri” High School in Bucharest, followed by the “Ion Barbu” High School, the National College “Central School”, but also high schools from Cluj, Buzău, Târgoviște and Iași.
“I choose not to tell people with whom to vote”
The actor explained that he no longer wants to urge the public directly to a political option, but wants to contribute to civic involvement through education and direct dialogue with young people. “These days are hard, perhaps the hardest and most dangerous so far. I do not know how to fight. I do not know who to address. The world in my bubble is revolted, scared and aggressive. I have felt this aggressiveness on my skin. If you are not with them, you are” a fool “.
I continue: “I choose not to tell people with whom to vote. However, there are enough to do this here, on Facebook. I choose, on the other hand, to fight differently. I choose to go through high schools and talk to young people, with teenagers who will vote on May 18.”
A call to teachers
In his message, Marius Manole emphasizes that education has never been a priority in Romania and that we have come to be led, often, by people who are not prepared: “Education, education, education! This should have been our priority in all these years.
He stressed that the fault for this situation is collective: “Now we are in this situation because we have beaten education. We waited to solve others in our place. They missed. We are all guilty.”
The actor concluded by a direct call to the teachers, encouraging them to collaborate with artists and to facilitate the young access to the culture: “Dear teachers, if you are good, call us to talk to the students. Look for the people they love, admire, take them to the theater.
The initiative of the actor has collected over 7,000 reactions and over 3,000 distributions for the social network.
“If you need me, here I am”
Actress Oana Pellea has announced that she joins the approach initiated by Marius Manole and that she is willing to go to high schools to talk to students about the vote.
