Husein Daniel Gabriel, known in the underworld as “Dasaev”, was definitively sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison for attempted qualified murder, after, in September 2018, he attacked with a knife two American basketball players in a place in the center of Braila, writes debrăila.ro. The punishment was thus reduced to the one received in the first instance.

The Braila Court had sentenced him to 12 years in prison, but the Galați Court of Appeal admitted the defendant's appeal and reduced the punishment to 5 years and 6 months. Other facts in the file-port or use without the right of dangerous objects and disturbance of public order-have been prescribed in the meantime.

Prosecutors sent Husein Daniel Gabriel in 2019, accusing him that on the night of September 15 to 16, 2018, he attacked him with a knife on Darrel Bowie and Joseph McClain, two American athletes aged 24 and 25, respectively, who evolved for ACS Cuza Sport Brăila. The incident took place in a place in the central area of the city.

Following the aggression, both athletes were injured in the chest and abdomen area. One of them, in critical condition, was transported with the SMURD helicopter to a hospital in Bucharest, having the perforated lung.

At that time, the athletes asked to be transferred to the United States, but doctors considered to be treated in Romania.

The case was also followed by the US Embassy in Bucharest, who transmitted that it monitors the investigations.

Later, Joseph McClain told Antena 3 that the incident had a racist motivation: “They were quarreled with us because we are black. They had no argument, no reason. I didn't say anything. He did not start from a girl,” McClain said at that time.

Gabriel Husein Dasaev became known in the 90s, when he cut the hands of a rival. Later, he stayed for many years after the grates, being sentenced in Romania and Spain for rape and pimping and was released from Focșani Penitentiary in 2014.
