no room signals, greater pressure necessary

Kallas emphasized that despite diplomatic efforts, Russia has no desire to peace. Therefore, she added, “we must give weapons to Ukraine to be able to defend herself.” In response to this, the 17th Package of Sanctions is developed (which is to be adopted on May 20), and EU countries strive to become independent of Russian energy sources. Issues related to safety guarantees for Ukraine were also discussed.
“Tomorrow we go to Ukraine and we will transfer a billion euros to the Ukrainian defense industry,” said Kallas. She added that on May 9 “all those who actually support peace could not stand alongside Putin, who began a full -scale war in Ukraine. If we want to support peace, then you should be in Ukraine tomorrow, not in Moscow.”
During the meeting, the basic principles of peace in Ukraine were also discussed: independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and the lack of recognition of the occupation of Ukrainian territories by Russia. Kallas pointed out that the suspension of the weapon must be “immediate, unconditional and implemented immediately”, and Ukraine must have the right to self -defense and security guarantees, without restrictions in deciding about its future. “There can also be no negotiations about Ukraine without Ukraine, there can be no negotiations on European security without the participation of Europe,” she added.
