Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Jordan are under red alert due to extreme forecast weather conditions for the next few days, according to the Daily Mail. Strong winds and heavy rains threaten to affect the region even worse, and the authorities urge the population to avoid travel and open areas.

The National Meteorological Center of Saudi Arabia warns that storms will continue until the middle of the week. Meanwhile, these phenomena already have consequences: two flights from Egypt to Kuwait have been redirected to Dammam, in Saudi Arabia, due to low visibility. In Kuwait, Shuwaikh and Shuaiba ports were temporarily closed to protect the workers, but were reopened Monday morning, May 6th.

In Jordan, heavy rains have led to the evacuation of hundreds of tourists from the archaeological site Petra, one of the most visited attractions in the region. At that time, over 1,700 people were in the area.

Extreme meteorological phenomena in the Middle East become more and more frequent. In 2022, thousands of people arrived at the hospital in the region, suffering from respiratory difficulties caused by inhaled dust during similar storms.
